CareOfCarl, one of our favorite online men’s fashion stores, has begun offering free garment alterations – or “tailoring allowance” as they rightly call it.
As you know, the best fit for a suit, jacket or trousers often requires a minor adjustment by a tailor. This may involve adjusting a waist or folding up a trouser to get the right length of suit trousers. This has long been an advantage for menswear stores, who can work with a local tailor and offer it as part of their service.
But now CareOfCarl has also started offering a similar service in its online store. CareOfCarl continues to develop in a very positive direction, with a steady stream of new brands, partnerships and departments.
CareOfCarl’s tailoring service – how it works
The service works in such a way that CareOfCarl pays your cost for the tailoring adjustment up to a certain maximum amount on presentation of a receipt.
We’ve looked around at jackets and suits, and the amount seems to vary from 500 – 1000 SEK depending on the garment and price tag. The good news is that it’s not just the luxury brands in the £10,000 range, but also Oscar Jacobson and Morris Heritage, for example.
This is how it works:
- Buy a garment marked with “Tailoring grant”
- If the garment does not fit as you wish, you can take it to any tailor for adjustment.
- You then email a picture of the receipt from the tailor and your bank account number to CareOfCarl, and receive your actual cost up to the maximum amount.
Keep in mind that if you make adjustments, you can no longer return the garment, but you will have to sell it via e.g. CareOfCarl’s pre-owned section.
